Since many glass sample bottles are made at high speed and low cost, some variances or imperfections may exist in the dimensions of the threads and opening between bottles of the same size and type. To remove this issue cap adapters have been designed for the various standard bottle diameters and threading, for example, 33 x 400 mm or 53 x 400 mm.
However, due to bottle variances from the manufacturing process, the cap adapters may not always give a tight enough seal. Without a tight seal, air may leak into the sample bottle causing sample overflows during the extraction process.
To avoid this we recommend using the gasket that comes inserted in each cap adapter. It may be possible to use the cap adapters without a gasket, and not encounter a leak, if you were using
a bottle that had no imperfections at the threading or at the rim. Also, using a gasket with the 33 x 400 mm cap adapter is not always necessary, when used with a larger cap adapter, and not directly on a 33 x 400 mm bottle.
Whether a gasket should be used or not, depends on the quality of the sample bottles, and the imperfections that may exist which could result in variances from the standard. We recommend that you test sample bottles for leaks with, and without, gaskets and decide the best option to optimize equipment performance.
